Editing Source Media (Advanced)

Dive deep into editing a source video or image file with tools for trimming, color correction, speed changes, filters, and more.

Opening the Source Media Editor

The advanced editor allows you to make destructive changes to a source media file before you add it to the timeline, or to update all instances of that media already on the timeline.

To access the editor for a specific video or image file:

  1. Go to the Media Library panel.
  2. Hover over the media item you wish to edit.
  3. Click the "Edit" button (pencil icon) that appears.

This will open a dedicated editor for that source file.

The Interface

The advanced editor is split into two main sections:

  • Preview Area (Left): This shows a side-by-side comparison. The left side is your original clip, and the right side is the live preview of all the effects you've applied. You can use the playback controls underneath to play and scrub through the video.
  • Controls & Effects Panel (Right): This is where you will find all the tools and settings to modify your clip.

Applying Effects

Effects are organized into expandable sections. You can add multiple effects, which will be processed in the order they are listed in the "Applied Effects" stack.

Trimming

Set the Start Time and End Time to trim the beginning or end of your video. This is useful for isolating a specific segment before applying other effects.

Transform & Crop

  • Rotate & Flip: Quickly rotate the video 90 degrees or flip it horizontally/vertically.
  • Crop: Click "Select Crop Area" to open a visual editor where you can drag and resize a box to crop your video to a specific frame.

Speed

Change the playback speed of the video. You can slow it down (e.g., 0.5x) or speed it up (e.g., 2.0x).

Enhancements & Adjustments

  • Color Adjustments: Fine-tune the look of your video with sliders for Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.
  • Artistic Filters (LUTs): Click "Browse Effects Library" to open a collection of professional color grading presets (LUTs). You can preview each one and apply it with a single click.
  • Stabilize & Smooth Motion: Use the "Stabilize" button to reduce camera shake. "Smooth Motion" can be used to interpolate frames for a higher frame-rate look (slow-motion effect).
  • Reverse: Reverses the entire video clip.

Intro & Outro Effects

Add professional transitions like fades or wipes to the beginning or end of your clip.

Managing Applied Effects

Each effect you apply is added to the "Applied Effects" stack at the bottom of the right-hand panel.

  • Reorder: Drag effects to change the order they are applied in.
  • Remove: Click the trash can icon to remove an effect.
  • Reset: Click the "Reset All" button to clear all applied effects and start over.

Saving Your Changes

  • Save: This will overwrite the original source file in your media library with the edited version. Any clips on the timeline that use this source file will be updated.
  • Save As New Clip: This will create a new, separate media item in your library, leaving the original source file untouched.
  • Close: Discards all changes and closes the editor.
