In-Progress Animations: Move, Mask, and Zoom

Learn how to apply continuous animations like Move To, Mask, and Zoom & Pan to create dynamic effects throughout the duration of a clip.

What are In-Progress Animations?

Unlike Intro and Outro animations that only play at the beginning or end of a clip, In-Progress Animations apply an effect that lasts for the entire duration of the clip. You can choose one of these effects to create sustained movement, reveals, or camera-like effects.

You can find these options in the Effects Panel under the Animations tab.

Important: You can only apply one type of In-Progress Animation to a single clip at a time. Applying one will disable any Intro/Outro animations on that clip.

Move To

The "Move To" effect creates a smooth, linear movement from a clip's starting position to a designated end point.

  1. Select a Clip: Choose the clip you want to animate on the timeline.
  2. Enable Move To: In the Animations panel, select the "Move To" radio button.
  3. Set End Position: Click the "Set End Position" button. A dialog will open, showing a preview of the canvas. Click anywhere on the canvas to set the point where you want the center of your clip to end up.
  4. Save: Confirm your selection. The clip will now smoothly travel from its original position to the new end position over its full duration.

Mask

The "Mask" effect lets you define a rectangular area. Only the part of the clip inside this rectangle will be visible.

  1. Select a Clip: Choose the clip you want to mask.
  2. Enable Mask: In the Animations panel, select the "Mask" radio button.
  3. Adjust the Mask:
    • On the Canvas: A draggable and resizable rectangle will appear on the canvas. Adjust it to cover the area you want to show.
    • In the Panel: Use the X, Y, Width, and Height input fields in the Effects Panel for precise adjustments. You can also change the Radius to create rounded corners for the mask.
  4. Edit Visually: Click the "Edit Mask Area" button to open a dedicated visual editor for more precise control.

Zoom & Pan

This is the most powerful animation for simulating camera movements. It allows you to create multiple "Ken Burns" style effects within a single clip.

  1. Select a Clip: Choose the video or image clip you want to apply the effect to.
  2. Enable Zoom & Pan: In the Animations panel, select the "Zoom & Pan" radio button.
  3. Open the Timeline Editor: Click the "Edit Zoom Timeline" button. This opens a specialized timeline editor for this effect.
  4. Add Keyframes:
    • The timeline represents the duration of your clip. Click the "Add Keyframe" button to add points in time where you want to define a specific view (zoom and position).
    • By default, you start with one keyframe representing the initial state.
  5. Set Zoom Area for Each Keyframe:
    • Select a keyframe on the timeline.
    • A resizable box will appear on the preview. This box represents what the "camera" will see. Adjust its size and position to frame the shot for that keyframe.
    • You can set the duration of the transition between keyframes.
  6. Review and Save: The editor will automatically create smooth transitions between the areas you defined for each keyframe. Once you're done, click "Save" to apply the animation.
