Editing Images (Advanced)

Apply advanced adjustments to your image files, including cropping, color correction, and artistic filters.

Opening the Image Editor

The advanced editor allows you to make destructive changes to a source image file before you add it to the timeline, or to update all instances of that image already on the timeline.

To access the editor for a specific image file:

  1. Go to the Media Library panel.
  2. Hover over the image item you wish to edit.
  3. Click the "Edit" button (pencil icon) that appears.

This will open a dedicated editor for that source file.

The Interface

The advanced editor is split into two main sections:

  • Preview Area (Left): This shows a side-by-side comparison with a slider. Drag the slider to compare your original image (left) with the live preview of all the effects you've applied (right).
  • Controls & Effects Panel (Right): This is where you will find all the tools and settings to modify your image.

Applying Effects

Effects are organized into expandable sections. You can add multiple effects, which will be processed in the order they are listed in the "Applied Effects" stack.

Transform & Crop

  • Resize: Enter a new width to resize the image. The aspect ratio will be maintained.
  • Rotate & Flip: Quickly rotate the image 90 degrees or flip it horizontally/vertically.
  • Crop: Click "Select Crop Area" to open a visual editor where you can drag and resize a box to crop your image to a specific frame. You can also enter the dimensions and position manually.

Adjustments

Fine-tune the look of your image with sliders for Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.

Filters & Effects

  • Artistic Filters (LUTs): Click "Browse Effects Library" to open a collection of professional color grading presets (LUTs). You can preview each one and apply it with a single click.
  • Standard Filters: Apply common effects like Grayscale (black and white) or Sepia.
  • Blur & Sharpen: Add a Gaussian blur or apply an unsharp mask to enhance details.

Managing Applied Effects

Each effect you apply is added to the "Applied Effects" stack at the bottom of the right-hand panel.

  • Reorder: Drag effects to change the order they are applied in.
  • Remove: Click the trash can icon to remove an effect.
  • Reset: Click the "Reset All" button to clear all applied effects and start over.

Saving Your Changes

  • Save: This will overwrite the original source file in your media library with the edited version. Any clips on the timeline that use this source file will be updated.
  • Save As New Clip: This will create a new, separate media item in your library, leaving the original source file untouched.
  • Close: Discards all changes and closes the editor.
