Editing Audio (Advanced)
Adjust volume, reduce noise, and apply pitch, speed, and artistic effects.
Opening the Audio Editor
The advanced editor allows you to make destructive changes to a source audio file before you add it to the timeline, or to update all instances of that audio already on the timeline.
To access the editor for a specific audio file:
- Go to the Media Library panel.
- Hover over the audio item you wish to edit.
- Click the "Edit" button (pencil icon) that appears.
This will open a dedicated editor for that source file.
The Interface
The advanced editor is split into two main sections:
- Preview Area (Left): This shows a side-by-side comparison. The left side is your original clip, and the right side is the live preview of all the effects you've applied. You can use the playback controls underneath to play and scrub through the audio.
- Controls & Effects Panel (Right): This is where you will find all the tools and settings to modify your clip.
Applying Effects
Effects are organized into expandable sections. You can add multiple effects, which will be processed in the order they are listed in the "Applied Effects" stack.
Voice Enhancement
- Remove Noise (Denoise): Applies a filter to reduce background noise.
- Enhance Speech: Applies a combination of filters to make vocals clearer and more present.
Volume & General
- Volume: Adjust the overall loudness of the clip.
- Reverse Audio: Reverses the entire audio clip.
Pitch & Speed
- Pitch: Changes the pitch of the audio without affecting the speed.
- Speed: Changes the speed of the audio without affecting the pitch. Note: To use the Pitch effect, you must first click "Analyze Sample Rate" to allow the editor to process the audio file.
Voice Changers
- Robot Voice: Gives the audio a metallic, robotic quality.
- Telephone Effect: Simulates the sound of a voice coming through a telephone line.
Advanced Effects
- Chorus, Flanger, Echo: Classic audio effects to add depth, modulation, and delay.
- Tremolo: Creates a rapid variation in volume.
- Equalizer: Adjust the gain of specific frequencies to shape the sound.
Managing Applied Effects
Each effect you apply is added to the "Applied Effects" stack at the bottom of the right-hand panel.
- Reorder: Drag effects to change the order they are applied in.
- Remove: Click the trash can icon to remove an effect.
- Reset: Click the "Reset All" button to clear all applied effects and start over.
Saving Your Changes
- Save: This will overwrite the original source file in your media library with the edited version. Any clips on the timeline that use this source file will be updated.
- Save As New Clip: This will create a new, separate media item in your library, leaving the original source file untouched.
- Close: Discards all changes and closes the editor.
